Implementing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

The United Nations Millennium Declaration, which was adopted in 2000 by 189 world leaders, was the first attempt of the international community to introduce a holistic strategy to meet the development needs of the world. The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that were set to be achieved by 2015 reflected the global consensus on the interlinkages among economic development, environmental degradation and population pressure, and, although in 2000 that deadline seemed very far away, today it seems too close.
